Sailed with Bob twice. Told me he applied for his own job as it sounded better than the one he currently had.Madhouse not amused.

Also sailed twice with Bob. Recall him and second engineer coming onboard later one evening after a cultural tour of Weymouth. They had been verbally and physically assaulted by some youths. The youths however had taken on the wrong pair and subsequently paid the price!

I sailed with Bob on the Empire Gull, my first 2EO job. He was not amused as I was carrying a banjo case! He said 1, he had been the youngest engineer on board till I joined and 2, he didn’t need a banjo playing 2EO. We had great fun between Marchwood, Zebrugge and Antwerp. Could write a book but no one would believe it!!
